Tower Cancer Research Foundation prides itself on fostering scientific creativity by awarding grant funding to innovative, imaginative, outside the box research. Since our inception in 1996, we have participated in over two hundred clinical trials with thousands of patients and awarded over 2 million dollars to 32 physician scientists pursuing novel hypotheses.
Beginning in 2008 Tower launched an initiative to focus more resources on funding basic science research. This change in approach is rooted in our strong held belief that understanding the mechanisms by which cancer develops and spreads is an essential step towards effectively treating and preventing the disease. To that end, we now award a multitude of different scientific grants from one-year $100,000 Career Development Grants to five year $500,000 Senior Investigator Grants to $1,000,000 Multi-disciplinary Discovery Funds. The physician scientists who receive our Career Development Grants often demonstrate such promising results that they later obtain large grants from other foundations and cancer research centers. Our initial $2 million investment has led to over $30 million in additional clinical research funding.
